A plain Madeira cake with simple ingredients, you can never go wrong!
Ingredients
- 110g butter
- 110g caster sugar
- 2 tbsp golden syrup
- 2 eggs
- 175g flour (self raising)
- 1⁄4 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract

Cream butter and sugar until light and creamy.

Add in syrup and eggs one at a time beating after each addition.

Sift the flour and baking powder and fold into the mixture. Add in vanilla.

Bake for 35 to 45 minutes at 180°C / 160°C (fan oven) / 360°F / Gas Mark 4, until risen and golden brown.
